Transportation

Taxis

Taxis in Singapore are metered, with fares starting at SGD 2.40 for the first kilometre. Surcharges are levied on advanced telephone bookings, for journeys originating at the airport, for peak hour journeys, for trips within or from the Central Business District, during peak hours (7:30am - 9:30am and 5:00pm - 8:00pm) and for trips during public holidays. Between midnight and 6:00am, passengers pay 1.5 times the metered fare.

A Taxi ride from Changi Airport to the city centre will cost approximately SGD 17.00 per taxi, which can transport up to 5 passengers.

Transportation

Mass Rapid Transit (MRT)

Singapore's world-class MRT is a great way to get around. The passenger train system operates on three main lines: North-South, East-West and North-West. MRT value cards can be purchased at all TransitLink Ticket Sales Offices in any MRT Station. With a one-off (refunable) deposit of SGD2.00, stored-value fare cards are available for SGD12, SGD22 or SGD32. Single trip fare cards are also available.

Also available is the Tourist Day Ticket, costing SGD 10, which allows you to take up to 12 rides per day regardless of distance travelled.

New MRT Station at Changi Airport

As from the 8th February 2002, you can take the MRT from Changi Airport to the CBD for as little as SGD 1.40. The service from Changi Airport station operates on an average frequency of 12 minutes and is only a 27minute ride to the centre of the city.

Buses

Bus fares range from SGD 0.60 to SGD 1.20 for non-air conditioned buses and from SGD 0.70 to SBD1.50 for air-conditioned buses. If you are paying cash, the exact fare will be required. Also available is a Tourist Day Ticket costing SGD 10, which allows you to take up to 12 rides per day regardless of distance travelled. Tickets can be bought at most MRT stations and bus interchanges.
